We believe in a hands-on and action-oriented approach to learning.  Teaching peace and social change is best experienced first hand or through unforgettable and fun activities.

Some examples from our Peace Camp include:

• Building a mock underground railroad through the community center and visiting the birth home of Harriet Tubman

• Learning about democracy and then voting on what sites we will visit on our next Friday field trip

• Singing peace songs at Baltimore’s Harbor and in front of the White House

• Meeting Van Jones, real-life peace hero and presenting him with an art project made of recycled materials and a poem about the earth

• Cleaning up trash on nature hikes and separating materials into those that can be recycled or composted and those that must be thrown away

• Receiving copies of peace hero Queen Rania’s The Sandwich Swap and learning traditional Middle Eastern folk dances

In addition, each week children learn about a new peace hero. Peace Heroes are role models, past and present, that aide in teaching and inspiring the children to live in brave and bold ways.

Each week, Peace Camp counselors center learning and recreational activities on peace heroes and our peace camp themes: respect for self and others, cooperation, healthy communication, conflict resolution, diversity, and respecting nature.
